CMU asked us for our creative expertise [their words] to design something for the wall that faces the entrance to their elevators. A piece that immediately lets those getting off the elevator know that one: they are on the correct floor, and two isn’t CMU impressive. They provided us with numerous stats and figures and gave us the task of putting it all together in a coehesive manner. Researching the different areas, we settled on four main areas of interest tied together with a moving quote from JFK. Once we got that down we then had to determine what to put it on and how to make it interesting. Not to mention affordable. A walk-through the building provided design cues for selecting a laminate that would integrate with other materials. Information panels were printed on matte black boards while the quote was applied in brushed aluminum vinyl. The finished piece: attractive and informational.
